Rivergate is a luxury apartment rental building located on the East River in Kips Bay. It was erected in 1985 by the Zucker Organization and was soon followed by several luxury condominium towers to the north that are south of Tudor City and the United Nations and a massive mixed-use project that was approved in 2008 on former Con Edison property by Sheldon Solow. Rivergate rises with three setbacks to its 35-story height facing the East River and the FDR Drive, which is elevated at this location. The Water Club restaurant is a few blocks south along the river. Most of the apartments in this building have spectacular views. The building has a large plaza on First Avenue, part of which is used as an ice-skating rink in the winter.
Units and Pricing
One bedrooms at Rivergate start at $2,500/month and go up to $3,500/month depending on the amount of bathrooms in the apartment. Two bedrooms, which come with two baths, are priced at $3,700/month, while convertible three bedroom, two bath units are listed at $4,300/month.
Features and Amenities
Rivergate has 706 rental apartments, some with 10-foot-high ceilings and some with fireplaces, and it was renovated in 1997. Apartments offer triple glazed thermal pane windows, solid cherry wood kitchens with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, Botticino marble bathrooms, large terraces and balconies and real wood-burning fireplaces in many apartments.
Among the building’s special features are a spectacular, glass enclosed three-story atrium lobby with a three-tiered waterfall and koi fish-filled ponds. There is a complete Fitness Center, a spring-loaded aerobic floor, massage facility and saunas. A beautifully landscaped outdoor botanic park and adjacent children’s playground are monitored by building security personnel. Additional amenities include a 24 hour doorman and concierge, valet service and garage with valet parking. For late night indulgences, there’s even an on-site 24 hour gourmet delicatessen.
Rivergate is located at 1st Avenue and 34th Street in the Murray Hills/Kips Bay neighborhood. Because it’s so far east, it overlooks FDR, which means great views – however; it also means that residents are a bit further from amenities and transportation than their western neighbors. It’s a good 10 minute walk to the 6 train at 33rd Street and Park Avenue, and you’ll need to go a bit west to find the bevy of restaurants and bars offered by Murray Hill. The plus-side of the location is the views, but with the scenes of the river comes the traffic of FDR.
Why You Would Want to Live Here
Rivergate offers condo-style amenities and great finishes for relatively low prices. The location isn’t spectacular, but once the Second Avenue subway is built, transportation will be a cinch; in the meantime, the 6 is just a short walk away. The building offers a slew of amenities for the modern apartment dweller, and it allows pets. When it comes to Murray Hill Apartments, Rivergate offers a great place at a great price.
